Data, Policy & Support

Where does WhoIsMyDentist data come from?

Our core listings are built from publicly available records, primarily the National Provider Identifier (NPI) registry, alongside state dental licensing boards and business registries. We enrich this with accepted contributions from verified dentists and office teams. We do not purchase or rely on proprietary data brokers.

The sources, in order

  • The federal NPI registry (NPPES) for every dentist and practice organization, refreshed from the weekly CMS file.
  • State dental board license files, where the state publishes them, for license number, status, and expiry.
  • DSO office directories and state business registries for ownership chains, each link cited on the profile.
  • Contributions from verified dentists and office teams, reviewed before they publish.

Each profile says where its facts came from and when we last verified them, at the bottom of the page.
